Get Back to Blogging & Jump-Start Your Blog: Day 1--Re-Upload Your First Post!

I have decided that I need to put some "fire" in my blogging.  So for the next 5 days I am participating in the SITS Get Back to Blogging & Jump-Start Your Blog event.  Each day will be a different topic.  I welcome your comments and really look forward to them!  (Comments are the highlight of my day!)

I want to thank the sponsors at Standards of Excellence, Westar, and Florida Builder Appliances who are helping the SITS'ers make Back to Blogging event even better.

Also, if you are not familiar with SITS, check them out!  It is a wonderful group of women bloggers!  I have met some of the most amazing women bloggers who inspire me every day!  The best part--they love commenting!!  Come and join the SITS'erhood....

Day 1:  Re-upload the first post you ever wrote on your blog.

February 15, 2010

I keep wondering why I listen to the weatherman. I was hoping that my first blog would be about how beautiful the new snow looks this morning, but it's just not to be! Just because we live in the South doesn't mean we can't have just a little good snow! Oh well, come on wedge, we're not giving up on you yet!

Yesterday I baked most of the afternoon. I made my grandmother's Lemon Glazed Pound Cake. I found this recipe with her recipes when we moved into her house three years ago. It brings back so many memories for me! I love that I found it.

I also worked on perfecting my bread. I got a "new" bread maker last month from a friend and we are trying to get use to each other. I use to have one when I first got married but sold it in a yard sale because I quit using it. I decided to start baking since money has been getting kind of tight with a new baby in the house. My husband said I'm getting close to the old bread, so I keep trying.

I have just discovered Swagbucks! If you have not discovered Swagbucks, check out my link and start earning your own points (by the way, you'll be help me earn too)! You can redeem them for really great stuff. You earn points for simply using Swagbucks to google. I have been doing My Points. It's different from Swagbucks in that they send you email to try new websites and if you click on the email you get so many points. I'm saving up for Red Loster gift cards!

The water heater is, well, not being a good water heater today. My husband is trying to but the life back into it this morning. I sure hope he can get it fixed. I would love to take a hot shower!
Thanks for reading this first post! Come back and let's share together!

Good Grief!  I can't believe that was my first blog!  Now I would have made 5 different posts from that first post.  This shows me that I had so much to say I just wanted to say it all at one time!

I have discovered that I can now work on one topic at a time and I don't have to worry about length.  When I first started blogging, I thought that I would need a long blog to keep people's attention.  Now I have discovered that one line or picture can bring in the comments.  A lot of words and subjects don't bring in the comments but the content of the post does.

Also, this first post had so many topics because I think I was trying to "find" my audience.  I now write for me.  I write to chronicle my family and our frugal but fun way of life.  My frugality is not always blatantly obvious but it is always here.

Keeping a diary of our family is the voice I want for this blog.  My first post--well, I still wasn't sure what I wanted.  So the multi-subject post was the only way I knew what to do.

Let me know...have I found my voice?  Am I heading in the right direction?  Do I need to still work on "finding my voice"?

***Oh, I am still doing (and loving) Swagbucks!  I am saving for a solar oven.  I use Swagbucks to go to every web site I go to.  That way I increase my chances to win Swagbucks!  I also have put the Swagbucks toolbar on my computer and vote in the daily polls every day.  This gets me at least 2 points a day.  I use my Swagbucks to buy Amazon gift cards.  It's like getting cash for just searching the web!

Check out Swagbucks and tell me what you think!***

  1. One of the things that I like about blogging is that I am constantly learning new things. :)

  3. Finally got a moment to stop by your blog. I think it's a fine first post. But I get what you mean, covering a lot of topics all at once is not necessarily the way you want to do it. Unfortunately, I still do that sometimes.

I like how you commented after it, stating how you've changed and what you've learned.

  4. Grr... I've lost my incredibly brilliant comment through Blogger... I think you've found your voice... I know I enjoy your posts and have a pretty good idea of what I'll find when I click on your notice... length is immaterial to me, if the information is good... come visit when you can...

  5. Stopped by from SITS... It's amazing how much you learn the longer you do this blogging thing isn't it? I never did learn how to make bread in my breadmaker.

  6. Stopping by from SITS - yes, writing for a blog is so different than writing an essay for English. There's the tone, the audience, but also you knew your English teacher would read the entire essay. On the internet, hopefully, someone will read all the way through, not just skim.

  7. Thank you for the comment love BTW you are too sweet! I actually liked your first post, but I think I like your writing style it is really easy to read and even though it had a lot of topics I still kept on reading and not just to be polite LOL. I think you have definitely found your voice! Once you figure out why and what you are blogging for I think it comes naturally! This has been a fun workshop so far, I look forward to reading the rest of your posts!

  9. Love this idea. Sometimes we do need to take a second look at our blog. I recently have got back into blogging just to journal our life. I print our blog out into a book each year so I try to just blog about us. Everyone else might not enjoy the read but we sure do!
I do think you have found your voice. Have a great day!

  12. OK...kind of embarrassed it has taken me so long to get over here from the B2B challenge...but I am here! Funny, my first three posts were one paragraph each...now I am long winded...I am backwards!

I look at finding your voice like this...if you are happy with it..it's your voice!
